about us
Clear Creek Wood Bank was created to provide a supplemental heat source to those who heat their homes with wood and are unable to afford or physically perform the act of making firewood. We coordinate with foresters, a local timber business, and private forest landowners to collect, cut, and give firewood that has been sustainably harvested from the Big Horn Mountains. We provide a limited amount of firewood once a week, November through March.
VISION:
Ensure no one ever has to choose between eating and heating.
MISSION:
To provide a local, sustainable source of wood heat for those in need.
We specifically target elderly, disabled, or those underserved who are not able to safely access and cut firewood as a heat source for their home.
What we accomplished
during the 2025 - 2026 winter:
In its fourth year of operation, Clear Creek Wood Bank achieved record levels in both firewood distribution and volunteer hours, as well as record collections in donations and awarded grant funding.
Clear Creek Wood Bank gave 137 cords of cut and split firewood to 959 families from 11 communities in Wyoming: Arvada, Banner, Buffalo, Cheyenne, Clearmont, Gillette, Kaycee, Ranchester, Sheridan, Story, and Upton.
On our busiest week, we served 55 families! On average, we provided 44 families a week with firewood. Value of wood distributed: $34,250
From the families we served, 71% were retired, 37% had a family member with a disability, 27% had at least one veteran in the family, 11% were unemployed, and 23% had at least one member of the family working part-time or full- time.
82 volunteers provided 1,816.5 volunteer hours over the year, a value of $60,835!
New partnerships were formed and community donations were given from private forest landowners, local Buffalo schools, and local businesses. Special thank you to New West High School and Buffalo Christian Academy for the partnership and student involvement during our distribution times!
